Tips for Healthy Eating

Health is wealth. Perhaps, you have heard this saying quite many times. But, the truth is that value of good health cannot be emphasized enough. A very important aspect of healthy living is to eat a healthy diet, exercising regularly and to live a very balanced stress free life.

Ideally an average man needs 2500 calories a day while a woman needs 2000 calories a day. Given the fast life style people live these days, they consume more than what their body needs. The key to eating a healthy diet is to know the right number of calories you need and to eat a varied diet to ensure that your body gets all the vital nutrients in the required quantity.

1.         There is a saying, eat your breakfast like a king. That is to say one should start your day with a wholesome breakfast. These day people have their breakfast in a hurry and many even skip it altogether. A breakfast is the first meal of the day and it is there to provide you with the needed energy for the day.

2.         Include a lot of variety in your diet, like dairy, fruit, vegetables, rice, pulses, beans, etc. if you are a non-vegetarian you can include fish and poultry too. But, avoid too much of red meat. Your meal should give you the necessary nutrients, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, etc. Most importantly, eat in moderation. Avoid eating like a glutton at all cost.

3.         Drink plenty of water. An average person should drink at least 2 liters of water everyday. It is important to keep your body hydrated all the time.

4.         Always make sure that you wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating or cooking them. This should be done to get rid of any harmful chemicals, wax layers, insecticides and pesticides.

5.         Wherever possibly avoid processed food and go organic. Processed foods are devoid of nutrients and contain artificial preservatives that can be harmful for your Heath. Avoid too much fried things and also avoid canned products wherever possible. High fat food like butter, oil, etc., is not necessarily bad. You should have them in moderation.

6.         You should never overcook your food as overcooking can lead to loss of vital nutrients of the food. Whenever possible steam your food instead of boiling or frying.

7.         You should always chew your food properly before swallowing it. It is important for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

8.         Minimize the intake of soda, coffee and caffeinated soft drink. Instead have plenty of water, low fat milk, buttermilk and natural fruit juice. Stop intake of alcohol as it is not good for your health.

These were a few eating tips for healthy eating. One last thing before I end this article  here - drink a glass of warm water with lemon juice first thing in the morning and have your dinner at least 3 hours before you sleep. Following these tips will go a long way in helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
